PHYSIOTHERAPY – CHARCOT'S DOUCHE

DESCRIPTION OF THE PROCEDURE

This is a hydrotherapy method being used successfully for cosmetological, therapeutic, and rehabilitation purposes. Charcot's douche has plenty of benefits for the human body. The contrasting water temperatures tone body having a bracing effect. Besides, the shower stimulates the work of the pituitary-hypothalamic system, improving the work of majority organs of the endocrine system.

HOW THE PROCEDURE IS PERFORMED?

The patient is positioned at a distance of 3-4 m from the shower rostrum (for the person conducting the procedure). A water stream is directed at the patient's body first in a semicircle, and then in a compact jet. First, the front of the body is treated, and then the sides and back. The jet is directed from head to toe, avoiding hitting the head, spinal column, mammary glands, and genitals.

Each limb is treated alternately along the large vessels, then the jet is directed to the abdomen (clockwise). During the first procedures, the water temperature is 36-40°C, but it is gradually lowered, up to 20°C by the end of the treatment course.

During the so-called Scottish shower, the jet water temperature is changed several times within the same procedure.

The duration of the Charcot's douche varies from 1-2 minutes of the first sessions to 5-7 minutes at the end of the treatment course. The water temperature is decreased with each procedure, and the jet pressure, on the contrary, is increased.

The number of procedures is 12-15 per course, depending on the patient's tolerance and indications.

RESULTS OF THE PROCEDURE

Charcot's douche has plenty of benefits for the human body.

The shock-type jet of water activates the blood and lymph flow through the vessels and multiplies the number of functioning capillaries. As a result, the blood nourishes the organs better, supplying them with oxygen and substances necessary for full-fledged vital activity.

The contrasting water temperatures tone body having a bracing effect. Depending on the water temperature, the "shock" jet increases or decreases the tone of the striated (skeletal) muscles and blood vessels, proceeds or slows down the processes in the central nervous system, raises or lowers blood pressure.

Besides, the shower stimulates the work of the pituitary-hypothalamic system, improving the work of majority organs of the endocrine system.

It analgesizes and reduces the inflammation symptoms, accelerates metabolism, boosts the immune system, has a detoxifying effect, promotes the removal of byproducts from cells, and fights cellulite successfully.

The Charcot's douche awakens the regeneration (self-healing) processes in the body. After a course of sessions, patients feel young and full of energy.
